Champagne Supernova

Happy New Year, friends! ๐Ÿ™‚ May 2014 be your very best year yet! ๐Ÿ™‚ How did you spend New Year’s Eve? I kind of hate that day, truth be toldโ€ฆ.there’s so much pressure on people to have an epic night, do something big, etc etc etcโ€ฆit all just bums me out. I shy away from big outings and things like that each year, preferring instead to have a quieter time – this year was no exception. I came down with a massively bad case of the flu on Boxing Day, so I wasn’t feeling up to anything too huge anyway. Instead, I went out for sushi at one of my favorite local places, went to see the movie “American Hustle”, came home and had a couple of glasses of my new favorite drink (Crimson Clementine Sparkle – see details below!), and rang in the new year with the nice people on TV. ๐Ÿ™‚ I stayed up until about 1:30am, watching the different music acts and performances on all of the NYE showsโ€ฆand then I turned in. The nice part was that I managed to have a pretty decent sleep (a rarity these days, let me tell you!) – so 2014 is off to a pretty good start! ๐Ÿ™‚

Slurp! ๐Ÿ™‚

Sooooโ€ฆ.here’s my new drink – the Crimson Clementine Sparkle! ๐Ÿ™‚ The recipe is:

  • 2 2/3 cups clementine juice, plus 1 tablespoon finely chopped clementine zest, plus 1 clementine for garnish (from 12-14 fruits total)
  • 1/4 cup cane sugar
  • 1 cup organic 100% cranberry juice
  • 3/4 cup fresh cranberries
  • 8 (1-inch) sprigs fresh rosemary
  • 1 (750-ml) bottle sparkling wine, such as Pascual Toso Sparkling Brut, well chilled
  • 1 (12-ounce) can tonic water or ginger ale

In a wide, shallow dish, mix zest and sugar together with your fingers. Wet the rim of 8 cocktail glasses with a wet paper towel, and then dredge in clementine sugar to coat. In a large pitcher, use a wooden spoon to muddle cranberry juice, cranberries and rosemary sprigs thoroughly. Fill pitcher with ice cubes. Top off with clementine juice, wine and tonic water or ginger ale. Stir vigorously; pour into glasses; garnish with clementine twists and serve.

During the mixing process – the clementine juice and pulp combined with the bubbly hooch made an AWESOME orange fluff on the side of the pitcher! ๐Ÿ™‚ LOVE! ๐Ÿ™‚

This cranberry juice is SO goodโ€ฆ.LOVE it! ๐Ÿ™‚

I made mine slightly differently – I didn’t use the fresh cranberries (because I forgot to buy them), and I left out the rosemary as well. I also didn’t go to the trouble of rimming the glasses in sugar (too messy and unnecessary, as far as I’m concerned) – I mixed all of this goodness up in a big pitcher, tossed ‘er in the fridge, and have been drinking from it ever since! ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s pretty good, if I do say so myself – and there’s something so funny about me juicing real clementines for a cocktail. I’m not sure why that tickles my funny bone, butโ€ฆit does. Perhaps I need to get out more. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yummy! ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway – I hope that your new year is off to a brilliant start so far! ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m planning to have a lovely dinner with some friends from work later today, and perhaps continue my quest to watch everything that HBO has to offer for the remainder of the day. I’m kind of enjoying this lazy bout that I’ve been on latelyโ€ฆand I think I had better, because once I return to work on Monday, I will start running at top speed again and likely not slow down for months!! The good thing is that I wouldn’t have it any other way. ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy New Year, my darlings! ๐Ÿ™‚ Je vous aime! ๐Ÿ™‚
