I had one of the best Thanksgivings I’ve ever had this year – and it was probably because I did things COMPLETELY different! However, since it was such a raging success, I think I might try it again! 🙂 Let me explain! 🙂
My Wee One is dancing in the San Antonio Ballet production of The Nutcracker this year (sooooo exciting!!), and we’ve spent a lot of time lately with rehearsals, costume fittings, portraits, etc….it all takes up so much time. This week, I worked Monday and Tuesday, and then raced downtown to the glorious Majestic Theatre for her evening rehearsals – they started at 5:30pm, and we didn’t finish until 10:00pm-ish (which is pretty late for a little girl!). We weren’t sure if we were going to be free on Wednesday night or not, so I decided that – for the first time ever – I would not be making Thanksgiving dinner. Blasphemous, I know. Oh well. Instead, I made reservations for my folks and I to go out for dinner…even though I really wasn’t sure how the whole thing would turn out.
On Wednesday evening (Thanksgiving Eve), the Wee One and I had one of my dear friends over for the evening – we had wine and cheese, and way too much giggling…it was great! 🙂 On Thursday morning, my tiny friend and I slept in, then got up and watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade (in its entirety!) in our jammies, I drank mimosas and she had juice, I was starting my Black Friday online shopping while we watched…it was just the best morning ever. There was so much hand-holding and cuddling going on…it was a beautiful thing! 🙂 We quickly got ready after the parade ended, and headed off to the Omni Hotel for dinner…and what a FANTASTIC dinner it was!! Gorgeous food! Beautiful surroundings!! It was just fabulous – I can’t even tell you how much I enjoyed the whole meal. Divine!! 🙂 From there, we took the Wee One to see the new Disney movie “Frozen”, which I LOOOOOOOOVED big time!! 🙂 It was such a great time! 🙂 Afterwards, the folks dropped me at home and took the Wee One to their house so that I could head out on my shopping expedition. I don’t have the heart nor the fortitude for the serious Black Friday shopping – I refuse to fight somebody for anything, but I do enjoy taking part in some of the festivities, and I always end up with a few great deals. This year – for the first time ever!!! – I actually had company because my dear friend, her son, and her mom all joined me – yaaa! 🙂 I had back up!!! 🙂 We went to Macy’s, Bath and Body Works, the Microsoft Store, a few other places…it was a really lovely time – and although I know the world is bitching and complaining about stores being open too early on Thanksgiving, I was happy they were…for I was home by 11:45pm – the time I’m usually just getting ready to start shopping! Woohooooo!!! 🙂
Overall, it was a really great day – I got to spend it surrounded by the people I love, I had some uninterrupted Muppet time (which I don’t get nearly enough of), and I wasn’t running around busting my ass and fighting with my mother over the food and the cleanup and the myriad of things that I do wrong (which happens every single bloody time we have any big dinner like that – it’s a huge part of why I’m just not into the whole thing anymore, to be honest). I had something that actually resembled a relaxing day, which I don’t get much of anymore….it was really, really nice. 🙂 (SIDE STORY: I have a friend who, while I believe that she is happy for me and my new job, cannot resist making digs at me every single bloody time I see her about my fancy new job and my lack of free time these days – I’m a single mother who works full time, and is working on my doctorate degree…is it any god damned wonder I don’t have a lot of free time???! I don’t get why it’s necessary to mention, but…whatever. Her damn issue, not mine.)
To end on a positive note – I have so much to be thankful for in this life, and I’m grateful for every single blessing that I have…of which there are so many. 🙂 I’m hoping that your life is full of happiness and good things, too – and, if it’s not, give me a call….you can come to the Omni with me for dinner – rest assured that my arse will definitely be going back, and I’m pretty sure that place has magical healing powers! 😉
