Call Me

I’ve been having an absolute nightmare of troubles with my phone lately – I’ve been missing loads of texts and calls, not to mention that things are taking forever to load (if they load at all)…it has been pissing me off. I rely on my phone FAR TOO MUCH, I know, but…that’s me. It is what it is, and I refuse to apologize for it. I’m terribly productive in a day, and a lot of my productivity is related to my ability to multitask, which is made much easier by my phone! So there! πŸ˜› Heehee! Anyway, I called the people at Verizon on Tuesday afternoon when my phone completely stopped working and arranged for an early upgrade (which I paid for) – I ordered a Samsung Galaxy SIII, in blue. Cute, right? Here’s a picture:

Me being me, I promptly hung up the phone from my Verizon call and went on Amazon to order some cute phone cases – here’s the two I chose:

Completely adorable, eh? I know! I’m so excited! πŸ™‚ Mostly, I’m excited to have a phone that will be working properly…mine has been a gigantic piece o’shit for months now, so…yaa me! πŸ™‚

However, me being me….things never go smoothly. I received an order confirmation on Wednesday morning, letting me know that my order had shipped…to South Dakota! I live in Texas!!! Β WTF, Verizon?!??!?! I called them immediately to let them know what had happened and that they had made one whopper of a mistake – the woman guaranteed me that she had been able to intervene and that the phone was being rerouted to Texas, but instead of being delivered on Thursday as promised, it would arrive on Friday instead. I wasn’t thrilled, but went along with it…what choice did I have? On Thursday morning, I started checking the tracking information again, and low and behold, I noticed that at dinner time on Thursday evening, that damn phone was in Sioux Falls, South Dakota! Umm….excuse me???!?!?! Turns out that they hadn’t rerouted it at all, and things were an absolute and utter shit-show. I called Verizon AGAIN (third call), and explained the situation – I had a lovely customer service rep who did in fact manage to turn the phone around, got me in touch with FedEx (the shipper), and they said they would do what they could, but…my phone wouldn’t be arriving until Monday. MONDAY??!?!? Oh, hell no!!! Β I gave up with this business for the night since nothing positive or helpful was coming out of my mouth anyway, and decided to get on the phone first thing Friday morning. This time, I spoke with a manager (why waste my time going through all of this with customer service reps again, regardless of how sweet and lovely they were on the phone) – thankfully, she took my complaints seriously, and made arrangements for me to pick up my phone at a local store during the day on Friday, instead of waiting until Monday. I’ve been a customer of theirs for years (and a good one at that!), so she was correct when she said that it was the least they could do – but what a friggin’ nightmare.

I made my way to the Verizon store nearest to my house on Friday, only to have their computer system go down right after I arrived. Turns out that there was a city-wide (and then nation-wide) outage with the system they use to sell and activate phones…which means that, despite three trips to the store in one day, I’m STILL phone-less. I’ve never seen anything so ridiculous in my life – at this point, it’s almost comical. I’m not sure what I’ve done to piss off the universe (actually, let me rephrase that – I know precisely ALL of the things that I’ve done that could have upset the fates – I’m just not sure which one it was that pushed them over the edge), but clearly there is a problem here. I’ve got some bad luck mojo going on…and it simply will not do. 😦

I clearly need to turn things around for me, so in the spirit of being excited about my new phone, I want to talk about a few of my favorite apps and ways that you can use your phone to increase your productivity and quality of life! πŸ™‚ Are you ready, friends? Here we go! πŸ™‚

hdpi_iconDiary App – this is Β a great little diary app, for when you want to write things down (and maybe not have them be found by prying eyes). This is a really simple application which allows you to write things down using a very simple, straightforward interface – and you can even add pictures to enhance what you’ve written. πŸ™‚ I heart this one a lot. πŸ™‚ If you want to search for things you’ve written, the search feature works extremely well – and the swipe navigation makes flipping through time a breeze! πŸ™‚ Everything can be password protected, of course – and should you wish to print your masterpiece, you can export your words (and attached images!) as PDF files. Ta-dah! πŸ™‚ Couldn’t be easier! πŸ™‚

30160
Ink Cards App – this is awesome! πŸ™‚ I love the idea of sending people cards in the snail mail, but I absolutely suck at getting off my hiney and going to mail the damn things. I have such shame about this. 😦 Anyway – Ink takes the effort out of the equation! πŸ™‚ Β This app allows you to customize greeting cards by adding your own pictures, writing your own notes/text, and poof!…they do the rest! πŸ™‚ They willΒ print your card and mail it for you…and you never have to get off your sweet hiney to do a single thing. πŸ™‚ This sounds like heaven to me! πŸ™‚ I’ve used Ink a number of times, and I LOOOOOVE the finished product – I’m sure that you will, too! πŸ™‚mzi.taamgppu.175x175-75Whole Foods Market AppΒ – This app is really awesome, especially for someone like me who has a child with food allergies and issues. You can search recipes by meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner, beverages, etc), filter by categories (budget, cooking with kids, quick and easy, etc), focus on special dietary needs (gluten-free, lowfat, vegan, etc), search recipes that use ingredients you already have on hand (an excellent way to get rid of the random shit in your cupboard), build shopping lists, and find your nearest store wherever you are! πŸ™‚ I think this app is slick as hell, and it’s mighty useful – give it a shot…I think you’ll love it! πŸ™‚

3979135892dropbox

Β DropboxΒ –Β I have been using this app a lot, as it makes it super-easy to access my documents wherever I am! πŸ™‚ I also think it’s an awesome way to share files with my peeps…plus it sounds cool as hell to have a dropbox. πŸ™‚

AppGarden-Lite11

AppGarden Lite –Β AppGarden Lite is a lightweight, backwards-compatible container with dozens of useful utilities, from conversion charts to a barcode scanner to a password generator. You can bookmark your favorite utilities for quick access. I’m still building my favorites folder, but so far it includes the QR scanner, stopwatch, tip calculator, Urban Dictionary lookup, and a calorie calculator. πŸ™‚ Fun, right? πŸ™‚

AnyDo

Any.do – Β I love organization, and there are loads of apps out there for making lists, but Any.DO is one of the best! It’s super-easy to use, it brings simple organization and built-in syncing between devices. While the main goal of Any.DO is to organize tasks, it can be used for shopping lists or whatever else you might need to itemize…and it’s a GREAT WAY to get yourself organized! πŸ™‚

What phone are you rockin’ these days? And, tell me about your favorite apps! πŸ™‚

UPDATE:Β I picked up my phone on Saturday, even though they weren’t able to activate it. It was FINALLY turned on Saturday afternoon…and the verdict on the Samsung Galaxy SIII so far? AWESOME PHONE! πŸ™‚ Yaaaa!!! πŸ™‚Β
